LISTEN: Jon Reynolds & The Aches release “Love Blind”

Well folks, this one is just what the doctor ordered. And, it’s brand new music after a year-and-a-half hiatus from Jon Reynolds & The Aches.
Reynolds was like many of us living through the daily grind, trying to pay the bills and squeeze in time to manage a creative career. When the pandemic hit, he found a silver lining.
“Up until the pandemic ground everything to halt, I was working 70 hours a week, and was grasping onto a straw version of my creative self. Oddly enough, this gave me a way out; an opportunity to revitalize,” Reynolds said. “I was discovering how much I had compressed myself in order to maintain the work schedule I had volunteered for over the last two years. I was finding my voice again. I was connecting the artist back to the art.”
In a parallel theme, the song’s defeated lyrics contradict an almost empowering feeling in the melody and arrangement. Despite its aching storyline, “Love Blind” is upliftin — a bop that will energize you and make you want to get on your feet and dance. It’s exactly the medicine we need right now; an 80s teen movie power anthem with a Cory Wong/Theo Katzman influence. The song is a statement of release and acceptance of circumstance, knowing the inevitable fate that that first broken heart changes you forever.
